The Hamburg Center for Kidney Health (HCKH) at Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE Hamburg) hosted a successful inaugural Glomerular Disease Preceptorship on December 2–3, 2024 in partnership with ISGD. Over the course of two days, the Hamburg faculty presented their research on a broad spectrum of glomerular biology and disease states, delved into current translational and clinical care topics, and facilitated lively discussions of complex cases contributed by participants. The preceptorship also included a practical course demonstrating the UKE assay technique for anti-nephrin antibodies, an introduction to Hamburg's extensive glomerular disease registry and biobanking projects, a guided tour of the Hamburg Center for Kidney Health, and a presentation outlining ISGD's Centers of Excellence program.

Sixteen nephrologists from twelve countries in Europe, Asia, and South America participated, bringing a wealth of insights from their own substantial experiences researching and treating glomerular disease within different health systems and populations. The collegial spirit fostered expert peer-to-peer discussions and ideas for collaboration throughout the two-day program. Using ISGD's member community site, the group plans to keep these discussions going as ISGD and UKE provide ongoing support for the cohort to exchange ideas and resources into the future.
"The programme and faculty were phenomenal," commented one attendee afterwards. "I have already updated a couple of patients based on material from Hamburg."
Dr. Tobias B. Huber, ISGD President and director of the HCKH, remarked, "This was truly an expert exchange. It exemplifies our goal for ISGD to bring together the global community so we can connect people and ideas to continue advancing glomerular medicine."

The UKE preceptorship was the first in a planned series of ISGD preceptorships to be held at leading institutions in various global locations. Funding support was provided by Novartis.
