ABOUT THE MEETING
The 10th International Podocyte Conference marked a homecoming to Freiburg, celebrating its 15th anniversary at Albert-Ludwigs University. The meeting was organized by Tobias B. Huber and co-chaired by Thomas Benzing.
Two major themes defined this event:
- NephCure joined as official co-organizer and co-sponsor, strengthening the bridge between research, translation, and patient advocacy, while providing the podocyte community with a more structured organizational backbone.
- The scientific focus expanded beyond podocytes to glomerular biology and glomerular medicine, signaling a broader, more integrated vision for the field.
These themes laid a foundation for the establishment of the International Society of Glomerular Disease nearly a decade later at the 14th International Podocyte Conference in Philadelphia (2023).
A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the Marilyn Farquhar Lifetime Research Achievement Award to Dontscho Kerjaschki in recognition of his transformative contributions to glomerular science.
The conference concluded with a "Breaking News" session featuring late-breaking research. With over 300 participants and more than 100 abstracts, the 10th International Podocyte Conference marked a new benchmark for the podocyte and glomerular research community.

“Let us today announce the expansion of our podocyte community towards glomerular biology, glomerular cross talk and glomerular medicine.”
