ABOUT THE MEETING
The 9th International Podocyte Conference took a tropical turn in Miami. A special highlight of the 2012 meeting was a patient talk from NBA star and Olympic champion Alonzo Mourning, who shared his perspective on living with FSGS.
For the first time in 2012, NephCure was involved in organizing and supporting the conference — a partnership that has continued through 2025.
Scientific sessions included:
- Systems Biology
- Integrins and the Sole Plate
- Actin Dynamics, Cell Motility and Protein Sorting
- The Slit Diaphragm, an Expanding Platform
- Genetic Disorders
- New Views of the Glomerulus
- New pathways of proteinuria
- Glomerular Regeneration
- Novel Therapeutic Strategies
- A dedicated Young Investigators session
The Wilhelm Kriz award (at this time given for the best abstract) was presented to Heon Yung Gee, MD, PhD for the abstract “The Novel Nephrotic Syndrome-Causing Genes, ARHGDIA, ANKRD25, and MPDZ Interact with RHOA in Podocytes.”
